Story Ballets

Sometimes, you just need a classic

Story Ballet, or Narrative Ballet, refers to ballets that follow a storyline. These are the bread and butter of any ballet repertoire, and they are firm favorites for good reason. They feature recognizable characters and full set designs and costumes which make them eye-catching and easy to follow. No need to be a bun-head to enjoy these classics.

Watch Marianela Núñez and Vadim Muntagirov in The Royal Ballet’s truly classic production of Giselle. Can’t get enough of their chemistry? Watch them perform together in Coppelia, the comic ballet about a toy maker, dancing dolls, and mistaken identity. Find true love’s kiss in Frederick Ashton’s  The Sleeping Beauty performed by The Royal Ballet. If frolicking fairies and men in kilts are more your thing try The Australian Ballet’s La Sylphide.

And of course, no Story Ballets Collection would be complete without Swan Lake. Watch Polina Semionova take on the most demanding double role, Odette (White Swan) and Odile (Black Swan), in Ballett Zürich’s 2009 production.
